Brun de Vian-Tiran’s distinguished history as a manufacturer of woollen goods began in 1808: since that time, 8 successive generations have made this family business their life’s work and passion whilst continuing their quest for noble fibres. A daily research task which has earned the company its unique, renowned brand of expertise. With its course punctuated with awards and recognitions, it responds to the requirements of a demanding clientèle, to the search for the beautiful, the rare, the useful with an air of respectful discretion. An exceptional business which is part of France’s heritage.
Weaving yet another thread into its history, in 2016 Brun de Vian-Tiran teamed up with ENSCI – Les Ateliers – Design Textile to create a partnership based around innovative textile design.
Revisit an emblematic accessory - the ‘Trois Mérinos’ throw : that was the challenge thrown down by the company. The students gave free rein to their creative and technical expertise, researching colours and motifs, enhancing this with the expertise and the specifics of the Brun de Vian-Tiran weaving process whilst injecting a breath of modernity and current style.
For 5 months, the group of 9 students worked on a number of creative propositions. Mood boards, drawings, colours, weaves, warping, weaving, finishes...all steps which the young designers had to master in order to explore new possibilities.
Pierre and Jean-Louis Brun, the father and son at the head of the Manufacture Brun de Vian-Tiran, along with Chantal Tournay, head of the textile design department at the ENSCI, rallied to work alongside the project, from the design stage until the final realization.
Ligne Roset decided to integrate two throws from the company’s final selection into its 2017 textile collection.
Zoe and Hanako are the result of exhaustive research into new looks for fabric and new reliefs. Many weaving techniques – methods of crossing warp and weft threads – were worked : louisine, panama, twill, satin, embossed, granite – and combined with effects achieved using coloured threads.
