InformationSITAR
In naming his most recent creation Sitar, Christian Werner is making an analogy between the shape of the body of his light and that of the hemispheric sound box of the sitar, the ancient stringed Indian musical instrument.
The name Sitar suits this superb table lamp perfectly: the depth and brilliance of the black finish of its shade and base bring a note of luxury, much like the sitar itself, which is often finished in precious materials.
Their rounded, organic forms are very sensual: the base is also evocative of a Serge Mouille light shade, whilst the domed shade echoes the cap of a mushroom; thus, the light recalls the mushroom lights of the Sixties, such as the Nesso light (Giancarlo Mattioli, 1965) in orange or white polycarbonate. Here, Christian Werner celebrates nostalgia through his extremely refined design and the nobility of his chosen materials, black mouth-blown glass.
